How's that Even Possible?

 How's that Even Possible?

My mouth is still open wide from hearing the in-and-outs of starting a beauty supply business, which caters to African-Americans, specifically.  On Thursday, March 31, 2022, Host Angela K. Chambers of the Refocused and Reformed Radio Talk Show and Co-host, Sondia O. Bell closed out the final show for Women's History Month interviewing Amanda Woody.

Now, if you missed the show, please go back and watch it! It's definitely a show worth your time. Amanda, also known as, "Mandy" is the Owner of Mandy's Beauty Supply. The original location was in Okmulgee, Oklahoma until the BIG move to Tulsa. NOW, sista girl has two locations in Tulsa and one on the way! Mandy gave us the tea y'all! She's planning an expansion of her brand in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma market. So keep your eyes open.

Back to this jaw-dropping information hunni! You just never realize, unless you are in that industry, the hurdles, the details and ins-and-outs of the business until you are in knee deep sometimes. So, first of all she was talking "Contracts." What type of contract besides a lease agreement do you need for a beauty supply store? Well apparently, to purchase inventory for the store, one has to be able to get a contract with a distributor. We learned first hand with our listeners, it's not just about money. "They" have it LOCKED DOWN.

As a matter of fact, while we are the LARGEST consumer of hair care products, we do not control or dominate in that space. I know what you are thinking, they asked as well, "How can another race control the black hair care products that are black-owned?" Those black-owned products that you find in these giant beauty stores, had to sell their products to the "system" for distribution. Sounds crazy, right? But, we now how we are when it comes to supporting our own. As Pete Pabelo says, "But we're getting better at it.."  He probably wasn't talking about this but anywho.

Mandy had a fight on her hands. She had to finesses her way into the market. The black-owned manufactures currently have not built a large enough distribution system to sell their products and reach the masses without this large system. "They" have been dominating this space for decades now.  If you don't know who "They" is, go watch the the REPLAY on TACM TV or on our Refocused and Informed Radio Talk Show Facebook page

Actually, go watch anyway and SUPPORT Mandy's Beauty Supply at either or both locations: 7212 E 41st St. S,  and 401 S. Utica Ave., Ste. B., Tulsa, Oklahoma
