Theatre North is Ready to Make the Mark with a Stage play by Pearl Cleage, “The Nacirema Society Requests the Honor of Your Presence at a Celebration of their First One Hundred Years”

Tulsa, Oklahoma – Theatre North’s new production, “The Nacirema Society Requests the Honor of Your Presence at a Celebration of Their First One Hundred Years” is all set to educate and entertain the audience this month. The stage show performances are scheduled for May 21st and 28th at 8 PM and May 22nd and 29th at 3 PM in the Liddy Doenges Theatre at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, 110 E. 2nd St.


Theatre North Tulsa is aimed at promoting African American talent and highlighting the rich cultural history. The theatre company has been operating for over forty years and has received appreciation from the general public for its plays and performances.


The latest feather in their hat is Nacirema which is a romantic comedy. Pearl Cleage penned down the hilarious play in 2013 and the talented artists with Theatre North company under the direction of Frank Gallagher will add colors to the play.


The premises of the romantic comedy is set in 1964 in Alabama where Martin Luther King Jr. is visiting to launch a voter registration drive in Montgomery. But, Grace Dunbar, the matriarch of Montgomery’s aristocratic Black family and Nacirema Society’s President has other things on her mind.


The light-hearted play depicts how different generations of Black women manage to deal with family secrets during changing times.
