Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Faces Fire Threats from Tenant

Staff Writer

Greenwood Chamber of Commerce has been repeatedly receiving fire threats from disgruntled tenant. This aggressive behavior against the non-profit organization has affected its operations, making it difficult for the administration to support local businesses.

Why Fire Watch Was Issued

Devin Williams, the owner of DW Speak Easy, recently filed a report against the Chamber. The business owner accused the Chamber of violating building maintenance laws which resulted in his business failure. However, the business failed due to the mismanagement and lack of planning of the business owner and has been sued in court on unpaid agreements.

After being sued and losing his case, Williams has been involved in propaganda against the Chamber of Commerce with the help of the former chamber member and friends including a local radio show and local news outlet.

Greenwood Chamber of Commerce lost most of its assets in the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre except for two buildings. The unsatisfied tenant has now started threatening the Chamber and his interviews suggest that he might want to set these remaining two buildings on fire. Therefore, the organization is on alert and looking out for suspicious activities.

Code Violations: TPD Report

Tulsa Fire Department had issued 8 code violations, but most of these violation reports were against specific tenants and not the Chamber. However, the fire department cleared the buildings by August 2022.

On August 19th, the owner of DW Speak Easy filed another complaint against the organization in which he accused the Chamber of code violations despite the clearance from TPD. This case has been closed as of September 2, 2022

This is when Devin Williams started using suspicious and "fire" language.

We Need to Protect the Chamber

The disgruntled tenant has been repeatedly sending fire threats to the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce in his interviews with media shows. The organization is, therefore, on alert.

We need to support our Chamber now and protect it against those who want to harm our legacy. You can report potential suspicious activities to the police or their non-emergency number at (918) 596-9222.  Currently, there are 42 businesses in these 2 buildings and we can protect them by joining forces.

The organization is doing its best to support businesses and the community. You can assist them in their operations through donations to $GCCBlackWallStreet.

Dr. Freeman Culver and his team need our support to restore the reputation of the Historic Greenwood Chamber of Commerce. Let’s support them with our voices and donations!
