Greenwood Chamber of Commerce is Under Attack - A Factual Review

Staff Writer

Being the 2nd oldest US chamber of commerce and the first Black chamber in the country, the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce has been helping local businesses for decades. The Chamber has turned 96 years old this year and deserves the support of our community.

However, unfortunately, an unfair complaint was filed on August 19, 2022, against the organization in response to tenant-related issues. Now, the Chamber of Commerce and its current administration are under attack.

Lies Against OUR Chamber of Commerce

The business owner of DW Speak Easy has been spreading false news to tarnish the reputation of the Chamber. There are reports against the business about code violations with the Fire Department and they are now pressurizing the Chamber to pay for THEIR OWN mistakes.

The interesting fact is that it’s promoted as a Black-owned business entity and Devin Williams claims to be the owner. But when we checked its business registration on the Oklahoma Secretary of State’s website, we noticed it’s actually owned by a non-black woman.

The Chamber has been helping businesses with funding and grants. It is, in no way, responsible for losses the business suffered due to the owner’s lack of planning and lack of compliance.

After a recent investigation and after being stated in an interview on a local radio platform by Williams, it was reported that the previous administration indulged in embezzlement, lack of building maintenance, and ineffective management. But since Dr. Freeman Culver took over, the new administration is working towards bridging these shortcomings and has saved the organization from bankruptcy.

The Chamber of Commerce is under attack on its own soil. The organization now needs our relentless support.

Support Greenwood Chamber of Commerce

The effort of Dr. Freeman Culver and his team to restore our legacy is commendable. They are in the process of seeking grant funding and helping out businesses with resources.

The ongoing attacks by the complainant and former administration are derailing the progress. As a community, it’s our responsibility to protect the Chamber from baseless accusations and defend it from people who want to destroy it.

You can support this mutual cause by doing your own research and sharing fact-based news with your social circle. Also, the chamber needs monetary support. So, you can donate to $GCCBlackWallStreet to play your role in preserving the Chamber.

We can’t sit back and let them attack our Chamber of Commerce. Let’s show them the strength of our community! Get involved with the solution.
