GCC Hosted the African American Chamber of Commerce from Stockton California
The African American Chamber of Commerce from Stockton California, CEO Paulette Amous-Gross, some staff and members visited the Greenwood on Saturday, January 28, 2023. The Greenwood Commerce Chamber welcomed the group. They had a tour of the premises, broke bread together, and discussed the importance of the Black Chambers of Commerce.
The touring group talked about how they are supporting the African American community and promoting commerce and industry for the economic growth of San Joaquin County. What inspired us was their positive mindset and their interest in rebuilding Black Wall Street.
The Chamber of Commerce team made a donation for rebuilding and supporting businesses in Black Wall Street that were lost to the massacre of 1921. Dr. Freeman Culver presented them with an honorary award as a token of appreciation for their visit and support.
Main Points of the Meeting Agenda
The Stockton California’s Chamber of Commerce visited Greenwood AKA Black Wall Street this weekend. The leadership of GCC welcomed and met the visiting group.
The Chamber of Commerce from Stockton advocates for policy reforms for the growth of minority businesses as well as creates financial opportunities for them by assisting them with capital access, contracting, and training.
The visiting group was interested in learning about the rich history and origin of Greenwood and how the current administration of GCC is working to preserve that legacy.
It was a great networking opportunity for both African American Chambers of Commerce and the importance of collaborating and sharing ideas was emphasized during the meeting. Further, they shared information about how Chambers of Commerce can play a vital role in the economic growth of the community.
Meeting Attendees
The administration of Greenwood was present to welcome visitors to the Greenwood Chamber. Executive Director Freeman Culver met them along with his family, including his wife Rhonda, and children. The Vice President of NAACP Tulsa branch#6143, Angela K. Chambers was also there.

Jesse Paxton, the Business Advisor at Oklahoma Small Business Development Center located at Greenwood Women’s Business Center, Tulsa, was also present during the meeting.
Further, Endia Knight of Endia's Plate Catering prepared delicious dishes for lunch after the meeting.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Freeman Culver, the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce is working to support minority-owned businesses.
The Chamber currently owns two buildings and 60,000 square feet of office space in Downtown Tulsa. The team is working to restore the legacy of the wealthy Black Wall Street and create opportunities for local businesses.
