NAACP Tulsa Branch Attends Vigil in Honor of Tyre Nichols The unfortunate death of Tyre Nichols has shaken the entire country. Another young man lost his precious life to police brutality. In honor of his life, Morningstar Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma arranged a vigil on Sunday, January 29, at 4:00 PM. The vigil was attended by the President of NAACP Tulsa branch#6143, Francetta Mays, where attendees paid respect and sent blessings. Interfaith Community Vigil Morningstar Baptist Church arranged an Interfaith Community Vigil where community leaders gathered for prayers. The attendees talked about the trauma of police violence, unjust practices against the black community, and the need to come up with solutions to prevent such horrific events in the future. GCC Hosted the African American Chamber of Commerce from Stockton California The African American Chamber of Commerce from Stockton California, CEO Paulette Amous-Gross, some staff and members visited the Greenwood on Saturday, January 28, 2023. The Greenwood Commerce Chamber welcomed the group. They had a tour of the premises, broke bread together, and discussed the importance of the Black Chambers of Commerce. The touring group talked about how they are supporting the African American community and promoting commerce and industry for the economic growth of San Joaquin County. What inspired us was their positive mindset and their interest in rebuilding Black Wall Street. The Chamber of Commerce team made a donation for rebuilding and supporting businesses in Black Wall Street that were lost to the massacre of 1921. With the new leadership taking charge at the start of 2023, the Inaugural Service & Fundraising Gala is announced on Saturday, February 11, 2023. The fundraising Gala is the introductory event for officer installation. NAACP Tulsa members elected a fresh leadership team in the elections of November 5, 2022. 10th Black Wall Street Heritage & History 2023 Festival This year's theme is Young Gifted and Black .  We celebrate Black History Month by showcasing the many talents we have in Tulsa on Saturday, February 4, 2023, 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Speakers from our community will update us on community happenings.  Our special guest is Tanya Wilson .  Our talent this year focuses on our young gifted children in the community. Our Vendors will showcase and present what they have to offer our community. We will have dancers, spoken word, poetry, drum circle, singers, and lots of entertainment from our community.  We will have a fashion show by Sugar Chic Glam - Leatrice Parker . We always, at every festival, feed the village with a soul food menu. The new leadership has taken charge and planned a series of activities and events for the cause. The local chapter has a lot of work to do. So, it’s important to prepare strategies that can assist in finding solutions for problems our community is facing. On Tuesday, 10 th January, two meetings are scheduled where members will discuss plans for upcoming months. Executive Board Meeting Led by President Francetta Mays, NAACP Tulsa#6143 has announced the first Executive Board Meeting for its Board Members. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, 1/10/23. The meeting mode is Virtual and will be conducted online.
