Prentice Ponds Case is at the Heart of NAACP’s Plans

NAACP Tulsa branch #6143 is moving in the right direction!

The organization’s Tulsa chapter has elected a new leadership and the energetic leadership with President Francetta Mays and Vice President Angela K. Chambers is taking charge on January 1, 2023. The President, VP, and other members of the upcoming administration are excited for this opportunity. They will work for people and raise awareness about critical issues such as criminal justice reforms.

The case of Prentice Ponds is at the heart of NAACP’s plans in 2023 and they will seek justice for wrongfully accused and convicted people.

Why the Community Needs to Support Prentice Ponds

Prentice Ponds was railroaded and sentenced to life+25 years for a fistfight. He became the target of bias in the justice system. We need to support him and raise voice for justice in the case.

Also, we need to talk more about such events and bring injustice to an end.

What Happened to Prentice Ponds?

Prentice Ponds was attacked in his own home by an insurance investigator after he filed an insurance claim. The investigator threatened him and attacked him in his own home. He defended himself and the attacker got hurt in the process. Hi But Prentice Ponds gave him water and towels for his injury. Then he captured pictures of the scene and reported the incident.

But instead of charging the attacker, law enforcement questioned both parties and arrested Prentice Ponds a few days later. The insurance adjuster decided to drop the case soon after since he was aware that the case was baseless. Around four months later, the case was reopened even though the plaintiff didn’t want to prosecute the case.

As per the court case, Ponds attacked the insurance officer and stole his documents. But the pictures he has on his phone from that day clearly show he has the documents with him when he is drinking water after the fight. So, the claim is null and void.

The crucial point was that he tried to defend himself but the judge ignored the point and charged him with robbery, stealing documents, and insurance fraud.

These charges typically carry a 3-year sentence. But the unsettling thing is that Prentice Ponds was sentenced to life+25 years which is extremely unfair.

NAACP Raising Voice for Wrongfully Convicted People

Since the start of their tenure, the new leadership intends to focus on cases against innocent people and help them seek justice.

We know about so many wrongfully convicted people around us serving time in person. And more and more innocent Black people are targeted every now and then.

We are dedicated to raising a voice for them and helping them get justice. NAACP Tulsa needs your full support to work for the community and advocate reforms in the criminal justice system.
